Are you looking to make a homemade DIY gift for mom this year? I know working hard and adding a personal touch makes a gift that much more special. So, get ready to get crafty and check out these 10 Best DIY Mother’s Day Gifts.
1. Bath Bomb

Bath Bombs are always a great gift (and not just for Mother’s Day). Who doesn’t love them? And, they’re pretty easy to DIY with only a few additional ingredients you may not have in your kitchen cabinet already. This tutorial is from a Beautiful Mess (which I love!). Make sure to check out their tips and tricks – my favorite is using a plastic Easter egg as a mold!
2. Ribbon Flowers

If you have extra ribbon lying around the house, this one is for you. Even if you have limited sewing experience, you can create these beauties. Pictured are some ribbon flowers I made and used as “paint” on my bridesmaid’s palette bouquets. I used a running stitch on about 12 inches of ribbon, pulled the thread to gather, rolled to look like a flower, and stitched the bottom. If you want extra bedazzle, add a button or gem to the center or a stem.
3. Children’s Footprint Crafts

Dads, if you are looking for something to surprise mom with that involves the children, this one is for you. There are many footprint crafts out there but I really like this tutorial for a Ladybug and Bee by Fun Handprint Art. Make it super cute by adding phrases like “Your Babe Bees”, “You’re Bee Utiful”, or “Hap Bee Mother’s Day”.
4. Thank You Post It Notes

Imagine mom waking up on Mother’s Day to thank you post it notes hidden around the house. Make it the best by being super specific with what you are thankful for. For example, instead of saying “Thank you for being awesome”, say something like “Thank you for waking up early to fix breakfast every morning”.
5. Spray-Painted Jars

Whether mom wants to use them as trinket holders or flower vases, spray-painted mason jars are a great (yet simple) Mother’s Day gift idea. Our Home Made Easy has a great tutorial on how to spray paint jars. You don’t have to use just mason jars either; you can use anything you have, including tomato sauce jars. Just make sure they are super clean before painting.
6. Letter

This could be one of the most treasured Mother’s Day gifts. Write from the heart and tell mom exactly how much you love and appreciate her. Bonus if you draw a picture.
7. Jewelry Organizer

So many options exist for DIY jewelry organizers – from the quick and simple to the time intensive and intricate. From a jewelry stand made with plates and candle sticks to The Homes I Have Made’s tutorial using strips of wood and cup hooks, there are plenty of options out there. My favorites are organizers using old frames and lace, wire, or needlepoint canvas.
8. Handpicked Flowers

Dads, if you have young ones and someplace to pick flowers, this is a great option for you! Take a walk and handpick some flowers. Bring them home and arrange them in a beautiful bouquet for mom!
9. Coupon Book

These last two are tried and true Mother’s Day gifts; just make sure you do them the right way. For a coupon book, be genuine when creating your coupons and puts reminders in your phone to regularly bring them up to mom throughout the year. Additionally, make sure you have some that are task oriented (washing dishes, doing laundry, etc.) and some that are person oriented (date night, undisturbed nap, massage, etc.)
10. Breakfast in Bed

Ah, the good ol’ breakfast in bed. It is a classic for a reason – because it works. Who doesn’t like waking up to food without having to lift a finger? Just make sure it’s food worth wanting. Unless mom wants a grapefruit or cereal for breakfast, don’t take the easy route. Instead, surprise her with pancakes with a side of bacon. This gift is best served with 30 minutes of do not disturb time and the handwritten letter mentioned earlier.
Hope these ideas help you!
