Bedroom and nursery wall murals add a custom touch to your home’s décor without any structural changes.
These wall murals vary in theme from Harry Potter to geometric shapes. Mountain murals vary from soft Appalachianesque weathered scenery (great for adult bedrooms and living areas) to sharp, young mountain peaks (great for nursery and toddler bedrooms).
I chose a mountain mural for the second bedroom because it fits with the dinosaur theme of the room but can also be adapted to other themes in the future.
Loving color, a strong green color palette was my choice.
Although a little nervous, I couldn’t wait to get started. Plus, paint is a forgiving medium and can easily be sanded and painted over.
However, if you are really worried, check out mural wallpaper or peel and stick wall decals.
Materials:
- Paint – I used leftover Sherwin Williams’ Essential Gray and Valspar’s Lime Candy and Lime Twist all in interior eggshell.
- Painter’s Tape – I’ve had the best luck out of Scotch blue 1.41 inch.
- Mini Paint Roller – This Whizz set from Lowe’s is great.
- Drop Cloth – Plastic is best because it can be taped but cloth with work.
- You may also need damp towels and a small paintbrush for touchups.
Tips:
- Lightly sketch the mountains with pencil. The mountains in the background should have more peaks than the ones in the foreground.
- Tape off the outside edges first then tape off the background mountains.
- For correct perspective, the value of the mountains should go from light to dark from background to foreground.
- Paint from the background mountains foreword. Overpaint the pencil lines on the bottom to create clean edges with the next color.
- Use many coats for complete coverage. 2-3 coats usually work but with bright colors, such as the lime candy, 4 coats may be necessary.
- Peel tape away at a 45-degree angle after the paint has dried.
- Add accessories.
Hope this inspires you to create your own mountain wall mural!
