Adding DIY details to a wedding really adds a personal touch. Plus, it can save a serious amount of money!
Although Lucas and my wedding was a little while ago, I still think about the DIY details I added to the day. And for us, these details allowed us to allocate our budget to “larger” items.
Since Lucas is a music teacher and I have an art education degree, our theme was “Watercolor & Music”. The colors were in the royal family- cobalt, emerald, and amethyst (with accents of ruby and gold).
The DIY star of the day was the bouquet. Instead of the traditional cut-flower bouquet, I went with one made with brooches and pins.
Most of the pins were ordered through eBay and the other materials came from Hobby Lobby. Of course some spray paint and hot glue helped.
The maid of honor also received a similar DIY bouquet.
Following the art watercolor theme, the bridesmaid carried DIY paint pallets. DIY ribbon flowers stood in for the paint colors and home grown live cut-flowers accented.
The Boutonnieres
The DIY boutonnieres were created with sheet music.
Watercolor on the groomsmen’s boutonnieres added a splash of color.
The Stationary
All of the stationary, including invitations, menus, place cards, and table numbers were hand designed. Watercolor paper allowed hand painted designs on the stationary.
The stationary included multiple design accents, including these swirls. Colored glass and sheet music flowers are the centerpieces.
The color and instrument on the handmade place cards denotes the requested dish.
The green drum place card lets the servers know the guest requested the chicken dish.
Additional Details
The DIY ribbon backdrop adds to the already beautiful view.
The unity ceremony included a volcano which created a purple explosion when the red and blue vinegar mixed.
The DIY guestbook is a big hit with fingerprint leaves representing the guests.
Multiple canvases with unique messages adds detail to the reception. This one says “Mutual Weirdness Forever.”
I hope this inspires you to add some DIY details to your wedding planning! And if you like the watercolor and music theme, feel free to “steal” these ideas!
